EDF Energy – going the right way

April 2010
EDF Energy, Britain’s largest electricity generator, have commissioned London based design agency to the point (ttp) on a variety of projects for 2010. Following a credentials presentation last year where ttp looked at internal graphics for two of their power generation sites, the internal communications team at EDF Energy were keen to move forward.
After initial exploratory work, ttp identified the requirement for improved site navigation at two key plants (West Burton and Cottam, both in Nottinghamshire). The £150k project was set to tie into the new brand identity guidelines. Subsequent to detailed planning of optimum routes throughout the site, a new signage style has been implemented, using more modern, totem structures. Signage proposals have now been approved and production is in hand for installation during the spring and summer. Consolidation of existing safety signage and improved continuity on building signs will give clarification to regular staff and visitors alike.
Vanessa Northam, Internal Communications Business Partner at EDF Energy comments, “The complications of working on a site such as ours always prove challenging, but to the point’s involvement has ensured a smooth running project, and I’m confident that the finished items will be received very well by those using the site.”
Lead designer Nikki Gay of ttp adds, “This is the first signage project where EDF Energy had the opportunity to integrate their new brand, and we were pleased to be involved in ensuring maximum impact.”
Manufacture of the signage for West Burton has been completed by to the point’s selected signage company, Geetee Signs, and awaits installation by EDF Energy. Production and installation at Cottam will run parallel to that at West Burton.
Work continues on the internal messaging and graphics, which will require large-scale installations and communications materials.
