Retail therapy for Islington Council

islington trader scheme

Shoppers in Islington should soon find it easier to locate responsible retailers following the introduction of the council's 'Islington Trader Scheme' (ITS) pilot, launched this week.

Islington Council turned to design agency to the point to create the logo for the scheme along with the associated leaflets and stickers that identify the member stores.

to the point project manager Lucy Jagger says “The idea of the scheme is to highlight local shops that are committed to fair trading principles and good standards of customer care. Before being allowed to join the scheme, retailers are vetted by Islington Council's Trading Standards to ensure they have sufficient knowledge of consumer rights law. Consumers can identify a member shop by looking for the scheme’s distinctive red bag logo.”

The new scheme will be launched at the N1 Shopping Centre this week and is planned to be rolled out across the rest of Islington shortly thereafter.

Cllr James Kempton, Leader, Islington Council, who attended the launch of the pilot said:

"We have a great mix of retailers in Islington, big and small, offering a huge variety of goods and services to a diverse and demanding customer base. We listened when local shoppers and retailers told us about the importance of raising the standards of customer care. The result is the ITS - developed to give Islington's shoppers increased confidence and our retailers deserved recognition for their fair trading principles."

Ben Jackson, Senior Designer at to the point adds

"We worked very closely with Islington council - developing a number of routes that expressed the different goals of the new trading scheme. Ultimately it was felt that the red shopping bag identity hit the right note of consumer confidence and will serve as a standard mark across the borough that people will instantly recognise."

Further information about the scheme can be found on the ITS web pages at www.islington.gov.uk/shopping or alternatively through leaflets available from any participating shop.
