to the point launch the Go Go Crew in Tower Hamlets.
Question: How do you relate information about health and safety to children in a way that they’ll understand, remember and find fun? Answer: the Go Go Crew - five funky characters that children of 6-11 can really identify with. As campaigners highlight the unhealthy state of the nation, with an estimated 7 in 10 people at risk through not being active enough, parents, schools and Councils endeavour to make children aware of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Enter the Go Go Crew. Created by London design agency to the point and illustrator Owen Williams, the Go Go Crew stars: Mitzy and Mina (super-fit, sax playing sisters), Spike (spec-wearing songwriter who supports more good causes than Chris Martin), Boz (the energetic drummer) and Riff (who even makes being a Road Safety Officer cool). Already you can see the potential. With an interactive website (www.gogocrew.co.uk) that will offer children the opportunity to pick up information about a whole range of health, safety and lifestyle issues - mixing music, playing a game or two and entering the odd competition – the Go Go Crew are sure to find a place in the heart’s of both children and their parents. Add
to that their potential to be used by public or private sector
partners to inform children about anything from healthy living,
healthy eating and exercise to stranger danger, drug awareness,
anti-smoking
and truancy. And, you’ll soon begin to see why the Go Go
Crew really is a band on its way to the top. The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is the first organisation to use this potent brand to their advantage. They’re using the Go Go Crew’s characters, street cred and attitude to attract children to their ‘good going - travel awareness in Tower Hamlets’ campaign. The Go Go Crew made a splash appearance on ITV on 30th April to support the Tower Hamlets ‘good going’ campaign. Their first ‘fanzine’, also produced in conjunction with Tower Hamlets, promotes the benefits of walking and creates readership loyalty to the band through schools. "As our primary school children develop an allegiance to the band members they will become more receptive to the key messages we want to get across about walking, cycling, public transport, car sharing and road safety", said Lyndal Peters, Tower Hamlets Principal Transport Planner. The interest from the public transport aspect of this project has already drawn Transport for London to the ‘good going’ campaign and the Go Go Crew, with additional funding likely to be forthcoming for an extended marketing campaign. Nine other Councils have already signed up to the good going campaign, which is a great opportunity for the Go Go Crew to extend their 'fan base' through other London Boroughs.
