ACCESSIBILITY

EPSRC Accessibility Statement

EPSRC is committed to enabling as many people as possible to access our website. By improving the accessibility and usability of our site, we are seeking to meet the requirements of all our users.

We are currently working across our web presence to ensure that we comply with all of the priority 1(A) accessibility checkpoints as established by the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). The WAI promotes usability and accessibility for people with disabilities and promotes good practice amongst the web community.

We will be making continual improvements to the website aiming to fulfill priority 2(AA) checkpoints. We also run functional tests to improve the accessibility of our websites.

IMPACT! WORLD (interactive multi-media)

The IMPACT! World is an interactive flash animation designed to give users a fun way to read (and watch) case studies. Whilst we have endevoured to make this experience as accessible as possible, flash animations do work in different ways on different browsers/platforms. For this reason, users may still prefer to access text versions of all the case studies (ie. if using a screen reader etc.). You can find them all within the 'case studies' section of this site.

Whilst IMPACT! World is best experienced using a mouse, the stories can be accessed via keyboard. Use the 'tab' key to select different items on the world and then use 'return' to open them. To close the case study box, tab to the close box and hit return or just hit 'x'. Pressing 'tab' allows you to access all the case studies around the world (not just those on screen). If this becomes confusing, press '0' to shrink the world so all the stories are visible at once.

Keyboard commands:

<tab> - select a button to interact with (press mutliple times to go through all available buttons, use <shift+tab> to go back)

<return> - access the selected button

<space> - open/close the 'quick menu'

x - close any information boxes

h - bring up the help screen

0 - 'mini-world' view, shrink the world so all icons are visible (press '0' again to zoom back in to  full size)

<left> - spin the world left

<right> - spin the world right

Changing colours

The colours on our site are normally controlled using cascading style sheets. However, users can change the site's background colour, which can be particularly useful for those who rely on magnification technology as a white background can produce an uncomfortable glare. This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout. If your browser or browsing device does not support style sheets at all, the content of each page should still be readable.
