Croydon BID website redesign: elevating user experience and online presence

Our redesign of the Croydon BID website merges previously separate BID and consumer websites into one offering, that reaches out to consumers as well as local business owners and levy payers. Croydon BID, is recognised as the largest Business Improvement District in the UK and is dedicated to enhancing the local community through a range of business and socially oriented initiatives that bring value and positive impact.

The new website is a fusion of aesthetics and user-friendliness. Harnessing the energy of Croydon BID’s previous Checkout Croydon brand we have helped our client bring a much needed ‘consumer focused’ refresh to the BID online with vibrant colours and bold typography. The website features a collection of locally themed hero images spotlighting Croydon landmarks, people and events, lending a personal dimension that amplifies the diverse culture of the borough.

This refresh is by far the most challenging that Croydon has gone through in terms of design aesthetic. Matt Sims, the Chief Executive for Croydon BID envisioned a new digital platform that speaks visually to the ongoing efforts of Croydon to become one of the most sustainable, welcoming, vibrant and culturally diverse locations in South London in which to do business, work, live and visit.

The new website features a clear split between business and leisure. An online directory of local businesses, venues and retailers is split into key categories for consumers to browse through. Alongside this is extensive information about the BID, core pledges and services and information pertinent to local business owners and levy payers.

Featuring a breadth of content with multiple sections, categories and levels of content requires engaging signposting to promote key topical areas, alongside a lucid and simple navigation system. We created a pop-up mega menu designed to compliment the main site navigation and enable readers to skip directly to any page on the website.

In addition to the business directory of shops, restaurants, bars and other venues, the new website features local guides suggesting activities in and around Croydon. This is further supported by an extensive events calendar showcasing comedy, fairs, music concerts, food festivals and family events throughout the area. Our team worked together to design and build a broad and varied set of page templates to showcase these different sections of the website and provide Croydon BID with the building blocks they need to expand the website further with dynamic new page templates.

We are all for challenging the status quo, considering different approaches and innovating, and the new Croydon BID website was no different. What has always been refreshing when working with tothepoint is their willingness to challenge, to consider and present new approaches that push the boundaries in the search for digital growth. The step-by-step guidance and support ensured we stayed on track, on time and on budget. Our new website speaks for itself and reflects tothepoint and their incredible team of committed and determined design and digital experts. Matthew Sims, Chief Executive of Croydon BID
