The Design Museum
The large graphic display was installed in The Design Museum for the London Satellite of Understanding Risk Global Forum 2022, where the latest report from the 2021 World Risk Poll, on perceptions of risk from AI and misuse of personal data were launched. The Design Museum is a great venue for events but is also a centre for excellence for design so this was a great opportunity to have our work displayed in such an inspirational venue.

Communicating risk from various viewpoints from around the world
It was important that the installation echoed the materials and graphics we created for the World Risk Poll website. Photography and quotes were incorporated from various community risk practitioners from around the world, highlighting key areas of risk including subjects such as crime, work-related harm, road safety and severe weather. This was supported by stats taken from the World Risk Poll that highlighted how people felt about these various global risks and the impact they had on them as individuals.
A key challenge was to design the large 25m x 3m canvas display in such a way that it could be broken down into smaller canvases as there was only a 2/3-hour window for it to be installed on the morning of the event. This proved to be quite a challenge as the complex graphic flowed across the whole canvas with an intricate network of keylines, stats, imagery, and iconography. We needed to segment this information so that text and imagery were not split by the four canvas breaks whilst at the same time not disrupting the flow.
Sam Dadd, PR and Communications Manager at Lloyd’s Register Foundation, had this to say about the event.
“To The Point’s quality design work helped communicate complex global datasets in an impactful, compelling, and engaging way. This type of large-scale data visualisation is difficult to execute, and to be able to successfully do so in front of Europe’s leading risk experts is a huge achievement for Lloyd’s Register Foundation.” Sam Dadd, PR and Communications Manager at Lloyd’s Register Foundation
