Enhanced UX design for the science sector with the new My RSSL web portal

Earlier this year we were approached by RSSL (Reading Scientific Service Ltd), a UK based Contract Research Organisation providing product development, scientific analysis, consultancy and training services to the Food and Life Science sectors. They needed a refresh of their My RSSL Portal; a web tool used by their clients to submit samples, analyse data and manage project information.

We worked closely with RSSL’s Marketing Manager, Rachel Horton and Digital Transformation Manager, Alexander Webbe, to help revamp their web portal. Our focus was on enhancing the UX elements by refining navigation structure, styling, typography and layout details. Throughout the process, we made sure to preserve RSSL’s distinct brand identity paying specific attention to brand colours, typography and iconography.

The result is a user-friendly design that works well as a web tool and compliments the main RSSL website design.

Before diving into the design of the My RSSL portal, we took a strategic approach by analysing the old portal and identifying areas for improvement. Working with our client and their web developer, the user interface was simplified to ensure the core information and functionality would be more intuitive and accessible.

Smooth navigation was crucial for clients to be able manage complex projects containing large sets of data. We structured the navigation, forms and tables to make it easier for clients to detail their data and for teams to access the results. This ensures that all information is efficiently received by the labs for examination.

Our design work on the My RSSL portal highlights our commitment to creating friendly  solutions that enhance both functionality and aesthetics, ensuring that users have a seamless experience from start to finish.

Alexander Webbe, Project Digital Transformation Manager at RSSL had this to say
