Beautiful and Brutal
With a keen sense of pride, our senior designer Joe took a trip to the Harris Museum in his home town of Preston to view the latest exhibition, Beautiful and Brutal: 50 Years in the life of Preston Bus Station.
Seldom do you dedicate gallery space to a bus shelter, but one as impressive and steeped in history as the station located in the heart of Preston can be the exception to the rule.
Designed by Keith Ingham and built in 1969 the now-iconic brutalist architectural concrete battleship has seen its fair share of ups and downs, recently winning a 13 year campaign to stop its demolition and become a grade two listed building instead. And a good job too. Once Europe’s biggest bus station, this building is as much of Preston’s identity as butter pies.
The exhibition celebrates all aspects of life on the station, from the people who braved the bitter cold on the platforms to the signage that was the first use of Helvetica in a public space in the UK.

Tasty de-livery
A while ago we did a bit of branding for Glebe House to help launch their family run business in Godstone. Having sampled some of their fare we can safely say it’s top nosh!
Well now they have invested in this refurbished, Citroen H van, catering conversion, to take their locally reared, free range, rare breed meats to festivals, weddings, events and more.
We’ve designed and adapted the typography to help enhance the retro look and this has been implemented by the very helpful team down at Surrey Signs. It has its first outing at Godstone Farm’s Halloween event.
