We’re pleased to share the launch of SC1 Pathways, a new website we designed and built for SC1 London. Created as a resource for young adults and students across Lambeth and Southwark, the platform helps 16–24-year-olds discover the breadth of opportunities available in health and life sciences, from education and training to jobs, placements and future career pathways.
With an emphasis on accessibility and ease of use, the website brings together useful resources, practical information and opportunities in one place, helping young people take their next steps into a growing sector.
Connecting local talent with opportunity
SC1 London is a growing health and life sciences innovation district spanning Lambeth and Southwark, bringing together leading organisations in healthcare, research, education and industry.
The district brings together a world-renowned university, a charitable foundation, flagship teaching hospitals, local government and communities to create a thriving life sciences ecosystem. SC1 London’s seven founding partners are Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, Lambeth Council, Southwark Council, and the four members of King’s Health Partners (KHP) – King’s College London, Guy’s & St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital, and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trusts.

Together, these organisations aim to establish the area as a leading centre for health and life sciences innovation, while ensuring local communities benefit from the skills, employment and opportunities generated by the sector.
SC1 Pathways supports this ambition by helping young people discover the possibilities available to them and providing a starting point for exploring future careers.

Making health and life sciences more accessible
Health and life sciences offer a wide range of career possibilities, spanning healthcare, medical research, biotechnology and scientific innovation. But for young people exploring their options, knowing where to start and understanding the different routes into the sector can be a challenge.
SC1 Pathways was created to help bridge that gap, connecting local talent with the opportunities available within SC1 London’s growing health and life sciences district. Our challenge was to create a digital resource that makes this complex and diverse sector feel approachable, relevant and easy to explore, giving young people the confidence to discover opportunities they may not have previously considered.

A clear and intuitive user journey
At the heart of the website is a resource hub designed around the needs of its audience. Rather than presenting information in a single, dense directory, we organised content into clear categories, helping users find relevant information based on what they are looking for.
From exploring career options and education pathways to finding courses, training, jobs and placements, the site provides straightforward routes into the information that matters most. Search functionality and curated resources help users narrow down their options and discover useful next steps.
The result is a practical, easy-to-navigate platform that brings together opportunities from across the health and life sciences ecosystem, making them easier for local students and young adults to find and act on.

Injecting life into the photography
To give the website a distinctive visual identity, we took still photography and transformed it into short, looping animations. Each sequence was carefully edited and layered with SC1’s brand graphics, creating a sense of movement and interaction between the imagery and the visual identity.
The result is a more dynamic and characterful approach to photography, bringing the people and places behind the sector to life. By moving beyond conventional static imagery, we created a visual style that feels more engaging, memorable and uniquely SC1.
Designing with accessibility in mind
Accessibility was an important consideration throughout the design and build. The website needed to work for a diverse audience, with different levels of familiarity with the sector, different needs and different ways of accessing information.
We focused on clear navigation, straightforward language and a logical content structure, helping to make information easier to understand and the experience easier to use. The aim was to remove unnecessary barriers between young people and the opportunities available to them.
By putting usability and clarity at the centre of the experience, SC1 Pathways provides an inclusive starting point for anyone curious about a future in health and life sciences.
A flexible WordPress platform built to grow
Built in WordPress, the website provides SC1 London with a flexible platform that can evolve as new opportunities, courses, resources and events become available.
The structured approach to content makes it easier to bring together information from a range of organisations and keep the resource relevant as the sector develops. It also gives the team scope to expand the platform over time, responding to the needs and interests of its audience.
As a growing resource for local young people, the website is designed to do more than share information. It provides a foundation for ongoing engagement with the health and life sciences community, helping to connect education, opportunity and the next generation of talent.
The result
SC1 Pathways brings together career information, learning resources and real-world opportunities in a single, accessible online destination. Designed to grow alongside the initiative, it provides SC1 London with a practical platform for engaging young people and introducing them to the sector.
We’re delighted to have played a part in opening up new possibilities for the next generation of health and life sciences talent.
