Twitter Brand Overview

Making a statement and creating a spectacle for this social media giant at its new London Piccadilly base which also communicated their core services and brought their passion and company values to the fore.

The brief

Twitter are one of a handful of global social media giants that were just about to open their new headquarters in the heart of London at Piccadilly Circus.

It was important that their premises not only reflected the organisations personality, but also their intent and ambition. We worked in close collaboration with AI Architects and DTZ to ensure all creative worked in harmony with each other across the interiors.

The focal point of the entire space was the impressive reception area which was adjacent to a six floor, glass fronted central atrium foyer. It was essential that this space in particular reflected the gravitas, creativity, innovation and social media aspect that the organisation embodies.

The creative idea

Twitter is all about the use of words and expression of opinions, where users post and interact with tweets that are simple and snappy.

We decided that the impressive reception area should reflect and embody this ethos. As a twist, however, we moved away from the propensity to use screens, mobiles and iPads. We thought it would be refreshingly different to represent words and text through the medium of a huge letterpress wall (one of the oldest, original forms of compiling messaging and words).

We designed and installed a 20 metre 3D typographic wall that comprised of Twitter’s most famous tweets from politicians, actors, pop stars and other celebrities.

We designed and project managed the manufacture and install of the 3D typographic wall which was built in sections at a prop studios based in Brighton. The wall was actually constructed from layered MDF, which was then painted and distressed to create the effect of the letterpress, metallic effect.

Taking a steer from the reception area concept, words and typography then became the natural driving force for all of our designated design tasks which included, communicating Twitters core staff values.

Creating stand alone wall graphics as focal points within the space and finally, signage and way-finding with the use of neon to brighten up the space.

Since then, we’ve been tasked with communicating the brand and its values at their New York, San Francisco, Berlin and Dublin offices.
